FAQs

Why hire a coach?

Sometimes making a change is tough. It can be hard to know where to start and how to follow through. Working with a coach offers support—a coach helps identify your goals, establish action steps to achieve them, and helps recognize and overcome obstacles. A coach will also hold you accountable, provide constructive feedback, and cheer you on. Hiring a coach is placing someone in your corner who has your back and gets you where you want to go.

How does it work?

The coaching process typically involves a series of sessions which may be conducted in person, on the phone, or through video conferencing. Usually, an initial coaching agreement consists of eight (8) 45-minute weekly sessions over three months. Each session concludes with an agreed upon focus for the client that week. Group sessions work in a similar way, with two to five participants, and last for 90 minutes each. Text or email communication between the coach and clients may occur between sessions.

Why would I want to change my relationship with food?

Chances are you’ve been eating in a similar way for a long time. You’ve probably got habits and patterns that you’re not even aware of. They’re not necessarily bad, and some may be serving you, but others may be outdated or not in your best interest. Reassessing how and what you eat is a way to check in and consciously evaluate what works and what doesn’t. Eating is a big part of our everyday, this is a chance to make it a great and fulfilling part. Over the years you’ve probably altered your relationship with many aspects of your life—how you work, socialize, exercise, why not take the same approach to your diet? Changing your relationship with food means how you eat is how you want to eat.

Why work with Laura?

I’ve studied food and diet from every angle, and I’ve guided many people to a new and deeper understanding and appreciation of it. I have master’s degrees in Psychology and Food Studies from NYU, and certifications in nutrition, health coaching, yoga, and culinary arts. I worked as an adjunct professor at NYU’s Nutrition and Food Studies program, and a nutrition and cooking teacher in the New York City public school system, I’ve taught about food from an academic, social, cultural, nutritional, and individual perspective. But most of all, I love and appreciate food, how it makes us feel, how it nurtures us and how it plays a huge role in our lives. Working with me you won’t just shift your relationship with food but will also realize a deeper connection with yourself.

How is Ignite With Laura coaching different than other diet or nutrition programs?

Many diet and coaching programs rely on strict rules and rigid meal plans that leave clients feeling deprived, focused on weight loss, and are often difficult to maintain over the long term. Ignite with Laura is about shifting your entire relationship with food, so it is not just about what you eat. It’s about uncovering why you eat it and how it makes you feel. The focus is on incorporating healthy food into your diet in a sustainable way that fits your unique approach to life, makes you happy, and enhances your experience.
